Romania Romania is located at the crossroads of Central and Southeastern Europe, on the LowerDanube, within and outside the Carpathian arch, bordering on the Black Sea. Romania shares a border with Hungary and Serbia to the west, Ukraine and Moldova to the northeast and east, and Bulgaria to the south.
With a surface area of 238,391 square kilometers (92,043 sq mi), Romania is the twelfth-largest country in Europe and has the seventh largest population of the European Union with 21.9 million people. Its capital and largest city is Bucharest, the sixth largest city in the EU with about two million people.
Zalau is the most important city from Salaj county, located in Nord-West of Transylvania. Zalau is the residence of the Salaj county, placed in the centre of the county, on the Zalau River basin, close to the Zalau depression and Mesesului Summit. Zalau covering an area of 90,09 sq. km.
The Art Highschool "IoanSima" is located in Zalau, in one of it's neighborhoods called Dumbrava. The name of the school is related to IoanSima, an important Romanian painter, who lived between 1898 and 1985. The school has 500 students and they are 7 to 18 years old. The students have the opportunity to study vocal or instrumental music and also plastic arts and sculpture. It is the only school of art in the county of Salaj and it supports many cultural and artistic projects, along with projects involving general knowledge.
We find it very important that the little artists should have the opportunity to learn about all the general aspects of reality, to learn about modern technology or history in order to become citizens of tomorrow's society.
Projects Students are encouraged to participate in various contests of arts or general knowledge. This school takes an important part in all cultural manifestations of the city of Zalau and in the development of the neighborhood Dumbrava. The school offers every child in Salaj county the possibility to learn arts. It is also important that our students understand the needs of modern society and that they become an active part of it.
Viva la musica! “Viva la musica” is a national and international music contest organized by The Art Highschool "Ioan Sima". The students are actively involved in art exhibitions and concerts.
