The Good Soldier • Endure, “To suffer evil, bear, hold up,” (Jas 5:13; 1Pt 2:19; 2Th 1:4) • Entangle, “to ensnare, weave in, knot/distort” (Heb 12:1,2; 2Pt 2:20; Prov. 28:18) • Pleasing to the master, “satisfy, endeavor to please”: • 1Cor 10:33, not seeking own profit; • 1Th 2:4, not seeking to please everyone, just master • Seeking to prove oneself useful to the commonwealth

  4. The Athlete • Discipline Body, 1Cor 9:27 • Purpose and Goal, 1Cor 9:25-26 • Compete Lawfully to Obtain Crown • Titus 2:12, Deny ungodliness and worldly lusts • Rev 2:10, Live faithfully until death • 2Ti 4:8, Fight good fight, finish the course, keep the faith • Jas 1:12, Endure temptations

  5. The Farmer • A farmer must first work before he gains the reward, 1Cor 9:10 • Matt 25:14-30, Prove worth, then reward • Rev 22:12, Reward according to our works • Col 3:24, Work now, repaid later

  6. Reasons For Suffering • 1Cor 15:19-20, Jesus Raised From the Dead • Acts 16, 28, The Gospel is not Chained • 2Cor 1:6, Eph 3:1, Others Will Obtain Salvation • Matt 16:25Die/We Will Live • 1Pt 4:13, Rom 8:17, Endure/We Will Reign

Conclusion • Today, we must follow the advice of the Apostle Paul and strive to be; • Good Soldiers, who endured all things while remaining solely focused on pleasing Christ • Athletes, who discipline their bodies, have a goal in mind, and complete according to the rules • Farmers, who are willing to first work hard, and then receive the reward
