About OXFAM TRAILWALKER • Began in 1981 as a training exercise for the elite Queen’s Gurkha Signals Regiment in Hong Kong • Grown into one of the world’s leading team endurance challenges • Now takes place in 10 countries including Japan, New Zealand, Belgium and India • Globally, the events have raised more than • AUD$135 million in support of Oxfam’s work • Oxfam Trailwalker Australia • Launched in Sydney in 1999, Melbourne in 2003, Brisbane in 2011, Perth in 2013 • Had more than 55,000 participants • Collectively raised more than $6 million in 2013 and more than $55 million since the inaugural event

WHO IS OXFAM AUSTRALIA? • Oxfam Australia is an independent, secular, non-government organisation working in 39 countries • Oxfam Australia is part of a global movement of dedicated people working hard to fight poverty and injustice. • Oxfam Australia funds long-term projects, responds to emergencies and campaigns for change • Oxfam Australia believes that simply giving hand outs is not the answer and instead provides people with the skills, knowledge and resources to help them create their own solutions to poverty

  7. Why Oxfam needs your support Every day, 1 in 7 people go to bed hungry, yet the world produces enough food to feed all 6 billion of us. More than 2,000 children die from unsafe water and poor sanitation every day. That’s one child every 45 seconds. We know education is essential, yet 121 million children globally are not in school.

  9. our Impact • $1,400 can pay for the installation of tube wells for 200 people in Bangladesh, so they don’t have to walk great distances to collect clean water • $2,400 can provide orphaned and vulnerable children and their families with nourishing meals for a whole year at a South African crèche • $3,000 can go towards supplying water quality testing kits to ensure people whose lives have been devastated by natural disaster are drinking safe, clean water • $10,000 can provide 37 women in small groups in Sri Lanka access to affordable credit to invest in small enterprises such as brick making, spice production, cultivation, small shops, and livestock rearing
