  4. Policies and Procedures • Please review the handbook and dress code with your child • Assignment planners • Use of binders • Weekly Schedule

Homework Policy • 5th Grade Homework Policy • All assignments should be daily recorded in the planner.   • Missed homework assignments will cost the students $1 Spartan Cash. • All homework is graded. • Homework points will be lost by: • turning in incomplete work • turning in illegible work • not turning work in by 9:15 AM the following day for partial credit

  6. Zero Credit Policy • For long range assignments, zero credit will be assigned two days past the due date.   • Email notification will be sent home.

  7. Classroom Management Plan All teachers will be following the “Hard Work Pays Off in 5th Grade” system this year. The students will earn Spartan cash for doing the right thing this year. They will use that cash to buy into a lot of memorable experiences! Cha-ching!!!

  9. 25 Book Challenge • Read 20 novels • Read 5 non-fiction selections • Fill out a small note card on each book as proof of completion One book per month can also count as the students’ Book-it obligation. No formal book reports.

Skyward Parent Portal • Skyward is the system on which we keep records for students, including grades. • The parent portal will allow you, as parents to view current assignments, grades and missing assignments/tests. • Please allow enough time for grades to be added. Most teachers only update Skyward weekly.

Math • Math Expressions Core classroom structures include: • Math Talk • Quick Practice • Whole class • Accessible Algorithms • Computational procedures Parents are provided with a log-in to the Think Central website@ www.thinkcentral.com online resources available to enable you to help your child at home • Student Leaders • Building Concept • Real world concept • HelpingCommunity

Instruction is conducted in a combination of both whole and small groups settings. Guided reading materials and literature circles are used to supplement the core curriculum. The Lexia Reading Program software is used to help students master all important elements of reading. Parents will be provided with a login to the Pearson Digital Path, where you will be able to access eStudent books and a variety of supplemental materials. You will be provided with a login and password at the beginning of the school year.

Fundraisers The fundraisers for the DC trip have been turned over to a parent committee. • Spirit Sale • Yankee Candle Sale • 20% back from the Boulevard on three WPE 5th Grade nights • More to come… There will be several fundraisers to help offset the costs of the trip for you and your child.
