  2. Overview Asthma is a common inflammatory disease which constricts airways and causes breathing to be difficult for the person with the disease.

  3. Overview (Cont.) Asthma has existed since the time of ancient Egypt, making it a very old disease.

  4. Signs and Symptoms Signs/symptoms of asthma are easily recognizable, and easily noticeable. If symptoms persist for an extended time, contact a doctor immediately.

  5. Symptoms (Cont.) Wheezing, shortness of breath, tightness in the chest and coughing.

  6. Asthma and Genetics Asthma can be both a genetic and lifestyle disease. The possibility of getting asthma is affected by heredity, air pollution, and other environmental factors.
