Plans for rest of 2012 Deploy social media pages IEEE CS CC STC : • Linked-in group • Blog • Twitter • Facebook These may help in developing and engaging a community, getting feedback and comments and establishing two way communication among stakeholders. It may facilitate deeper conversation. There may be stakeholders  who may not subscribe to be CC STC volunteer, but willing to provide feedback and ideas in casual/informal manner through social media. * Shall we make use of ‘crowdsourcing’ for STC activities?

Plans for the rest of 2012 CC for Emerging Markets (CCEM) Conference, Bangalore, India, Oct 2012 • Prepare a complimentary booklet  (handout) of 20-24 A4 pages and arrange a hard copy of it for each participant along with their registration package.  • The booklet may contain: 1.   Brief editorial Introduction to the booklet 2. An article highlighting IEEE CS CC STC activities and invitation to participants to volunteer 3. A selected collection of 3 or 4 articles in area of cloud computing and/or emerging markets published in IEEE CS magazines in the last two years (“Promise of Cloud Computing to India” is an article that will be published in Sep 2012 issue of IT Pro. We could certainly include this article. 4. One or two advertisements related to IEEE CS • We can prominently display on the cover page IEEE CS Logo, IEEE CC STC logo, and a link to CC STC portal, and state it is publication from CS CC STC.

  7. Plans for the rest of 2012 Need to work on:Cover PageAttractive Title This booklet would be welcomed by participants and very well help in promoting our/IEEE CS activities. Not only the participants would be aware of, they also share it with their colleagues and interested contacts.  It’s something doable within the timeframe; and conference organizers would be happy to distribute to participants. If this proves successful we could do similar things to some other conferences as well.

Plans for 2013 Steve Diamond: Please talk directly to the track leaders and give them your inputs for the various tracks: • Publications: Jon • Conferences: Nim • Standards and Testbed: Mary Lynne  and David • Education: Mike • Portal, Marcom, PR: Sorel and Kathy Important Dates: o Tuesday, 2 October - Final version ready for submission to NIC o Tuesday, October 9 – NIC presentation o Sunday, November 11 - BOD meeting

Plans for 2013 Conferences: • Preparing and printing of CS CC STC Brochure  (two A4 color pages; 5000 copies in  2013  - distribution in relevant conferences) • Preparing and printing of other promotional materials  (like the booklet what we have been planning;  24 A4 pages in color; 2000 copies) • Expenses towards participation in key Cloud Computing conferences to promote CS CC STC activities and seek participation. Say five  to seven conferences held in different places around the globe in 2013. Travel, accommodation and registration fees (where applicable) • Sponsorship/hosting  and organizing of  dedicated one-day workshop on  the theme “problems facing and/or posed by Cloud Computing  and how we can address them” held  in conjunction with five different  international conferences in 2013 held around the globe. • Expenses towards annual  two-day annual  (face-to-face) meeting of CS CC STC key members to review the progress and lay agenda, brainstorming,  and generation of road map and agenda for further work. (Cost of travel, accommodation, etc). • Development, periodic update and maintenance of CS CC STC Portal   - cost of initial development, update  (does this cost to be included?)

Plans for 2013 Publishing: • San proposed a new “Cloud Cover” department in IEEE Computer magazine  (published once in two months, starting from Jan 2013).  Ron Vetteris very interested in this. Note: It would have wider readership and, among other things, promote and showcase the work of STC and ongoing developments in cloud landscape. I’m confident it would be welcomed by different stakeholders. • Transactions on Big Data Big Data STS (Chair SundaraNagarajan– also on EB of Computing Now): https://sites.google.com/a/ieee.net/stc/about John Walz: Sundara should be brought into this conversation to understand the  CS CC STC plans and resources. He has two immediate options: • continue as a "grassroots" STC building a community of experts, authors, & consumers with some competition with CC STC • join CC STC and later crave out a "sub-STC" with its critical mass

Plans for 2013 Newsletter, Web Portal: • Seems that the bulk of IEEE CCI expenses are on conferences and meetings-- suspect that this maps to the underlying goal of effectively increasing membership or awareness. • Although there are projected revenue numbers in the future, I wonder if one would want to somehow highlight the "difficult to track" membership pull.  However, it also makes me wonder about the CS STC charter - is it to try to assist in both membership and revenue, or is revenue generation alone a suitable goal? • Most of the items listed in the IEEE CCI 2012 budget are the same types of items that we would want.  I noted that most of the cost for staff was for travel.   • From past discussions regarding the Portal and other presentation areas, we want to consider allocating specific funding for either contractors or additional staff for real web front and back end developer hours.

  14. Plans for 2013 Education: 1. What is the status of the activities outlined in IEEE CCI Plan for 2012? It would be very helpful as a level set for us to know what has been going on in their first year. 2. The education track laid out a set of courses that we are currently developing within CS. Our first set will be for the MAWs and there are five that we have targeted for inclusion in IEEE Xplorefor online learning. CCI specifies that CS takes the lead and we are. 3. The budget in the CCI for education was:  4. As long as we have a commitment for these amounts and CS is the lead, we are in good shape. As long as this is the CCI under which we are operating, education looks to be taken care of.

Plans for 2013 Standards & Bok: • IT BoK PIF example: • We also need a revenue model – has Angela or Chris provided any inputs?  Like, in doing a wiki style one, are we hoping for eyeballs (advertising to fund it? • Steve has adequately covered standards costs in his proposal (he is the Chair of the CC standards committee, which is part of CS) • CC BOK team has decided to • Set a regular 9:00 AM PDT Friday meeting time • Use NIST taxonomy as a starting point for organizing a LifeRay portal BOK. • Start with Consumer, since our initial audience (supporting ed and MAW) is enterprise and IT execs • Push NIST taxonomy down a few layers by developing new leaf nodes on Consumer branch of taxonomy • Do a test drive of this approach by using a list of topics we’ve already put together to test new nodes for usefulness.

  16. Questions • It is the High-Tech Wild, Wild West out there. • Although the CC marketplace is still chaotic, it is: • Exciting • Fast-growing • Full of opportunities
