  1. ADVICE TO MYFRESHMEN From a former freshman

  2. 1. LEAVE NOTHING FOR THE MORNING. Before bed… • Pack your bag • Pack your lunch • Charge your phone • Lay out your clothes

  3. 2. NEVER BE LATE. You may not mean it that way, but it’s disrespectful. If you are ever late, apologize after class.

  4. 3. BE INTERESTED. Ask questions. It’s a great way to get to know people. Interested people are interesting people.

  5. 4. REMEMBER NAMES. Saying “Hi” in the halls is fine. Saying “Hi, Alexis” is much better. (But only if the person’s name is really Alexis.)

  6. 5. DON’T WORRY WHETHER YOU’LL “EVER REALLY NEED THIS.” Most school work is exercise for the brain, designed to make you a better thinker. You may never need the quadratic formula, but you will be smarter for having learned it.

  7. 6. GET INVOLVED. It’s (another) great way to meet people, discover new passions, stay busy, get in shape, or add to a résumé or college application. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjh6nstI5jk

  8. 7. BE ORGANIZED. AVOID STRESS • Create a study schedule • Make to-do lists • Maintain your assignment notebook • Keep a calendar

  9. 8. BE KIND. Think back to when you were younger. Whom do you wish you could see again: the bullies… or the people who were nice to you???

  10. 9. SHRUG OFF YOUR INSECURITIES. Everyone has them. Nobody notices your flaws the way you do. Don’t be your own worst enemy.

  11. 10. STAY SOBER. Adolescent bodies & brains aren’t capable of handling drugs or alcohol. Most alcoholics began drinking as teens. Remember that really drunk person you saw at a party? Do you want to look like that person? Me neither.

  12. 11. SEEK ADVICE. It’s not possible for one person to have all the answers. But your parents and teachers want only the best for you.
