  2. Lesson Objective • SWBAT compare the various perspectives of Manifest Destiny as witnessed by western settlers and Great Plains Native American tribes.

Word of the Day/Initial Activity • Destiny • A supporter of the rights and power of the people • Manifest Destiny • Answer these questions based upon observations of the picture. • What do you remember about Manifest Destiny? • How did Americans justify expansion? • Why might some groups oppose American expansion? • Discussion • Do you believe America was justified in expanding west despite the resistance faced by Native Americans?
