  2. Objectives Outcomes • To recap understanding of the Ormskirk School lesson plan • To develop understanding of the accelerated learning cycle • To share ideas about how to engage learners at the activate stage • To discover some practical strategies that you will use in the classroom

  3. Connect Phase • What do you hope to achieve From the forum?

  4. The Accelerated Learning Cycle

  5. Input/Introduction (Starter) • Make learning personal • Actively involve students • Share objectives & outcomes

  6. Activity/s • Give the necessary information to begin to solve problems posed • Use a variety of methods to give this information e.g. case study, role play, text books, story • Encourage the learners to experience in a variety of ways (VAK) • Provide the opportunity for reflection, description and speculation

  7. Demonstrate • Provide opportunities for learners to ‘show they know’ in multiple ways • Allow students to share what is being learned in a variety of groupings • Provide feedback to students and groups about ‘how to improve’

  8. Review for recall & retention • Reflect on what has been learned and how • Link to the outcomes shared in the connections phase • Link to how what has been learnt can apply to other areas of your subject or other subjects

  9. Engaging learners at the activate stage • STEPS: • Write one example each of an effective technique for the activate stage • Team captain calls “Showdown” - all team members show their cards • Decide on a team answer (the best example in your opinion)

  10. Using the hand-out discuss in your groups the effectiveness of the differing techniques in your area. • Discuss different strategies you have also used
