NY Office of Science, Technology & Academic Research (NYSTAR) • Absorbs science and technology programs from Dept. of Economic Development (ESD) and economic development programs from SUNY • $156.5 million for High-Tech Academic Research • $280 million in venture capital funds to invest in emerging businesses and to spur high-tech business growth • $34 million to retrain employees to operate high-tech equipment • $51.5 million for infrastructure improvements to supply water to accommodate business growth

NY State Science & Technology Foundation (NYSSTF) was dissolved 2/1/2000 in favor of NYSTAR • Public Foundation staffed through Empire State Development • Mission to create the means for • industry to access leading-edge technologies • manufacturing companies to receive technical assistance • new ideas to become new companies • small companies to grow • Programs are performance based • Funds are matched by non-state money
