Minerals • help your body grow • body uses minerals to perform many different functions • used to make hormones • Calcium is the top macromineral when it comes to your bones • helps build strong bones
Water • Without water, body would stop working properly • needs water • carries oxygen to all the cells of your body • also in lymph • helps you fight off illness • needed for digestive juices
Fibre • adds no calories • found in plant foods like fruits, vegetables, grains • 25 grams+ needed each day • Types
Protein • builds, maintains, and replaces body tissues • carries oxygen to every part of your body • Other proteins are used to build cardiac muscle
Carbs • the body's most important and readily available source of energy • are broken down into simple sugars • the sugar can be used as energy
