Uniform / Clothing Considerations • Neat, well-fitting, clean, and wrinkle-free • Choose undergarments that will not show • Avoid extreme styles • Follow standards established by place of employment • Must be clean, neat, and in good repair • Style that allows for body movements • Should be appropriate for position
Uniform / Clothing cont’d • Name badge • Shoes • Personal hygiene – strong odors may make some patients feel sick • Nails • Hair – off the collar • Jewelry - limit • Makeup can be worn to create a natural appearance
Promote Good Health • Health care involves promoting health and preventing disease • Health care workers serve as role models • Diet – provides fuel for optimum health • Rest • Exercise • Good posture • Avoid use of tobacco and drugs
Qualities of a Healthcare Worker • Patience – learning to overcome obstacles and deal with frustration • Tact – stating what is needed to be said without being offensive • Competent – qualified and capable of performing a task • Self-Motivation – ability to begin and follow through with a task and able to determine things that need to be done • Enthusiastic – positive attitude…enjoying your work
Dependability – Do things accurately and on time • Explicit – Speaking very clearly…no confusion about what is being said • Empathy – Being able to feel, understand another’s feelings, motives • Discretion – Using good judgment about what and when to say something • Constructive criticism – helps one to improve their work
