  1. Team 2: Alex Craska Lori Errico Jack Flaherty Jason Rozet Rick Summers Final Project Increasing Enrollment at Ithaca College

  2. Rick Background Information • The economy is challenging and students are being choosy about how they invest their educational dollars. Based on majors, students are applying more to state schools because of lower tuition costs. • We are part of a consulting team that has been contracted to help Ithaca College recruit and retain more students. This will increase enrollment and funding.

  3. Rick Project Goals • To attract more new students to enroll at Ithaca College, and retain them for as long as possible (ideally, until they graduate). • To establish relationships with applicants or prospective applicants to Ithaca College. Importance: Ithaca College programming and overall function is heavily tuition-based. This coincides with having students live in on-campus housing at least until their senior year. We want students to live on campus and be involved in extracurricular activities and student organizations.

  4. Alex Method of Approach Project Time Frame: September 09 – January 2010 + Wrap-up Research Demographics: • Types of students currently enrolled at Ithaca College. • How many transfer students enroll at Ithaca College each year, by region.

  5. Lori Alex Project Scope • Inclusions: Academic areas, sports and team recruitment, student organizations, miscellaneous clubs. • Exclusions: Juniors and Seniors who are currently attending other colleges. • Constraints: Time constraints, the size and resources of our consulting firm, available resources within IC • Interfaces: Peer Recruiting, high school visits, E-mail, Mailing lists, online chats • Assumptions: This project will be mostly concerned with high school students (juniors and seniors) who are still choosing what colleges they want to attend/apply to. • Communications: Weekly updates with the Office of New Student Programs and the Office of Admissions.

  6. Jason Interfaces in-depth • Apart from new initiatives, our ideas will interface with current Ithaca College projects. • Peer Recruiting / High School Visits • Mail and E-Mail Lists • Online Chats with current students • Article in Thursday, February 26 edition of The Ithacan

  7. Jason Interfaces in-depth (continued) • Work with the Office of Admissions to figure out the target ranges of enrollment. • Identify some programs capable of admitting more students to compensate for a lack of students in other programs. • Perhaps extend more offers of admission instead of waiting list offers. • Increase awareness of the return of the early decision option. • Form student advisory groups to interact with prospective students and help deans better understand their concerns and interests. • Continue developing programs with the dean’s hosts.

  8. Jason The Plan • “The college is in a good position to meet (prospective students’) aspirations and needs, because it is an institution that knows its identity and values and can stay true to those as it serves its students.” –Gerard Turbide, Director of Admission • Focus on Ithaca College’s programs, diversity of academic programs and personal attention. IC is a very attractive option for students and families.

  9. Jason The Plan (continued) • Specifically, we will use the aforementioned interfaces to disperse information about Ithaca College. • We will evaluate how IC is currently using its resources in attracting new students. • We will try to maximize the potential and effectiveness of those resources. • Most of our attention will be focused towards recruitment, rather than retention.

  10. Jack Project Quality Plan • Become familiar with requirements for acceptance at Ithaca College (to help define and narrow down the demographics) • Reference how many students from different schools apply (reference demographics by geographical area) • Reference how many international students apply by country and what academic program • Reference previous admissions by state/region • Surveys

  11. Jack Team Structure

  12. Everyone Roles and Responsibilities Alex – Human Resources: • Liaison between the consulting team and its firm, and the Ithaca College Office of Admissions. Lori – Marketing: • Creates mailers and flyers for the ongoing project, and major designs. Jason – Communications: • Publishes information on the firm’s website, Intercom, and the Facebook group page. Helps with minor designs. Jack – Finance: • Manages the budget and fees paid by Ithaca College. Rick – Ethics: • Makes sure that the consulting team is not misleading the consulting firm, Ithaca College, or potential students.

  13. Lori Potential Outcomes • Objective Fulfilled: Ithaca College will have more new students, and as a result, more funding. The applications process might become more competitive because of the increased enrollment. • Goals not met: Ithaca College will not have more new students, and consequently, less funding.
