  1. What Is Braided Tinned Wire?

  2. Braided tinned wire is one of the most frequently used types of wire, particularly in electrical applications. Whether it’s in telecommunications, power generation, copper-based components or simple circuitry, tinned wire has a key role to play.

  3. Tinned wire is copper wire that is given a specific application. This is because copper wire on its own is not effective in every situation. By giving it a special treatment, the copper wire’s efficiency and durability increase. Take for example the use of copper wire in high heat, rainy and humid climates. This type of weather causes corrosion rather rapidly. To prevent this for as long as possible, braided copper wire is tinned. Even though tinned wire is more expensive than non-tinned copper wire, it is capable of outlasting and not to mention easier to solder.

  4. Why is Copper Used? After silver, copper is the most conductive metal on earth. Due to its abundance, relatively affordable cost compared to silver and ease of use, it is considered the gold standard in all electrical work. All conductive metals are rated against copper. Copper naturally battles galvanic corrosion. This is gradual breakdown of the metal. It is also so durable that it prevents stretching or breaking. But copper is not invincible either.

  5. It is prone to oxidation. If you have ever seen the Statue of Liberty, you’ll understand what is oxidation. In areas with humid climates, such as the coastline or in swampy areas, or in sulphuric environments, copper forms a reaction with water and transforms into a semiconductor. This means its efficiency decreases. It becomes incapable of moving electricity. Tinning cannot solve this problem.

  6. How does tinning help? In the process of tinning, a light layer of tine is applied to Braided Copper Wires, either through dipping into molten copper or via an electrical current. Tinned copper wire shares the same conductivity level as regular copper wire. The tinning has the added benefit of corrosion protection. In addition, tinned copper wire lasts much longer than non-tinned wire. It is also very easy to solder.

  7. Tinned braided copper wire is used in subways, marine projects and industrial cranes and any application where a resistance to water is required. To place an order for braided tinned wire, please contact Ganpati Wires.
