  4. What is WorkFlow • Work indicates an elementary action in a given process, that is a task that must be carried out by a user. • Flow means stream, in this context we shall speak of a stream of work.

  5. Components of Oracle WF • WorkFlow Engine • WorkFlow Builder • WorkFlow Monitor • WorkFlow Notification Service • WorkFlow Analyzer

  6. WorkFlow Engine • It allows to control the creation and the execution of the Workflow processes. • This engine executes rules and Workflow functions, which are defined in Workflow Builder.

  7. WorkFlow Builder • It allows to present, to create, to modify diagrammatically a process and its components (typical elements, activities of functions, activities of processes, activities of notification, messages of notifications etc.). This graphic builder also supplies a vision of all the processes.

  8. WorkFlow Monitor • It is about a Java tool which allows you to watch, to administer your processes Workflow. • Helps the user follow the graphic evolution of the processes.

  9. WorkFlow Notification Service • The service of notifications of Oracle Workflow serves for sending and for developing notifications, visible from an application of electronic mail (via Notification Mailer), or web page of the notifications (via the agent of interfacing Web).

  10. WorkFlow Analyzer • It analyzes processes thanks to the use of tools decision-making as Oracle Discoverer.

  11. Sample WF • Student Hire WF • Student applies online • The app goes to a respective dept • Dept clerk makes sure the app is complete. • Dept clerk approves and passes to Manager • Manager approves passes to HR • HR sends notifies the Student • HR creates Employee Record and notifies Payroll

  12. Challenges of WF • To get the user sign-off on ‘What they really want’. • Takes a lot to test all various scenarios. • Need of good application to record changes/update for records which did not go through.
