  1. Imperialismin theMiddle East Ryan Hong David Kim Andy Lee

  2. Imperialism Itself in Middle East • Before dominated by Europeans/first dominated by the Ottoman Empire • Started when Ottoman Empire started losing power • MIDDLE EAST was a very important region for trade route control & oil • Russians raged war on Ottoman Empire called Crimean War • British & French did not want the Russians to gain the land and helped the Ottomans instead • After the Crimean War…Middle East started to reform—to not get dominated by European powers

  3. Thinking 1: Europeans • Wanted to take the whole MIDDLE EAST for their vast resources & trade route • Didn’t care about the indigenous’s livings & only interested in the resources & trade routes

  4. Thinking 2: Indigenous • Tried to modernize to European standards to not be colonized by the Europeans, but failed • Was pretty much cheated by the Europeans • I.E.: Egypt borrowed money from British, but in the end couldn’t pay back so British took control (imperial policy)

  5. Conclusion—Consequences • Many MIDDLE EAST nations tried to modernize themselves, but in the end FAILED • MOST of the MIDDLE EAST nations were colonized & occupied by the Europeans—giving Europeans many resources & trade routes • AFTER imperialism: many states were created/modernized by the industrial revolution’s influence/government & economy became stronger under Europeans
