  3. EU FP6: Design Studies& Construction Calls: March 4, 2004, Budget 70 Mio€  phase1 (2005-2007) 2005, Budget 70 Mio€  phase2 (2006-200?) 2006, Budget 70 Mio€  phase3 (2007-200?) Overview of EU requirements for application: Design Studies: EU: 1-10 Mio€ (GSI: planned 2/3 accelerator, 1/3 experiments) Construction of new or upgrade of existing facility: 5-15 Mio€ EU funding 50% for Design Studies EU funding 100% for Construction (up to 10% of total construction cost)

  4. EU FP6: Design Studies& Construction Roadmap for GSI Future Facility application Publication of Call: 11 November 2003 Presentation of the selected Design Topics and the Construction application and meeting of the steering committee: 16 December 2003, 14:00-18:00 at GSI, Hörsaal/Theorie Seminarraum 17 December 2003, 9:00-13:30 at GSI, Theorie Seminarraum deadline for submission of application: March 4, 2004

  5. EU FP6 Design Studies Scope: support for a new infrastructure  International Accelerator Facility for Beams of Ions and Antiprotons • Feasibility studieswill aim at laying the conceptual foundations of a potential new or enhanced infrastructure. This could consist in the basic feasibility study of a specific new facility or in exploring a new fundamental technology or technique underpinning a whole new concept. Alternatively, a feasibility study could cover the detailed engineering design of a proposed infrastructure, in particular in relation to its most technologically advanced aspects (i.e. excluding the detailed design of standard elements of the new infrastructure). • Technical preparatory workwill cover the development and testing of components, subsystems, materials or techniques (including dedicated software) that are critical for the future development of a new or enhanced infrastructure.  deliverable: prototypes Support will however not be provided for preparatory work based on existing or proven techniques or technologies, nor when it aims at reproducing available components or materials.

  6. EU FP6: Design Studies Experimental Programme Proposal aspects Feasibility studies to demonstrate physics performance (simulations) Feasibility studies to demonstrate technical viability Detailed design (up to prototyping) to demonstrate technical realization for costing and schedule Collaborations decide on the specific proposed activities and appoint coordinators Proposed experiments for EC-call Phase I Panda CBM Super-FRS (NUSTAR)

  7. EU FP6: Design Studies Accelerator Programme Proposal aspects Feasibility studies to demonstrate accelerator parameter goals (beam dynamics simulations etc.) Feasibility studies to demonstrate technical viability Detailed design (up to prototyping) to demonstrate technical realization for costing and schedule Proposed design projects for EC-call Phase I (coordinators) SIS100 (SC Magnets, HF, UHV, Beam Diagnostics, Inj./Extr.) RIB (Super-FRS, Target, cooling,...)

  8. EU FP6: Construction SIS-18++ Proposal aspects Upgrade SIS18 to 3 Hz (power supplies, ...) Intensity increase - RIB (FRS / ESR / R3B / Rising ? ) - pions (HADES-upgrade) bunch compression Proposal Coordinators from Accelerator and Experiments

  9. EU FP6: Design & Construction Steering Committee should act as an Advisory Committee  improve quality of applications but should also help actively to formulate a consistent document before the submission of the application J.
