NUCLEAR REACTOR

NUCLEAR REACTOR. Nuclear reactors release energy by controlled nuclear fission chain reaction. Reaction fuel is generally uranium isotopes 235 U and 238 U.These are used in the form of rods and known as core . Moderators such as heavy water and graphite are used to slow down neutrons.

  1. NUCLEAR REACTOR

  2. Nuclear reactors release energy by controlled nuclear fission chain reaction. • Reaction fuel is generally uranium isotopes 235U and238U.These are used in the form of rods and known as core . • Moderators such as heavy water and graphite are used to slow down neutrons.

  3. Energy liberated in the form of heat are removed continuously by a coolant. • Cadmium rods are used as controlled rods to absorb neutrons. • The reactor is surrounded by thick layer of lead to protect harmful effects of nuclear radiation.

  4. The core is connected to exchanger and moved by water converting steam. • The steam drive a large turbine and then to a generator for electric power generation.
