  1. First Aid Chapter 9 Chest, Abdominal and Pelvis Injuries

  2. Chest Injuries Check and recheck ABCs Sit up or place injured side down Encourage coughing to prevent pneumonia

  3. Rib Fractures Main Symptom: Pain with movement, coughing or breathing.

  4. Rib Fractures What To Do: Stabilize by having victim hold pillow or soft object against area. Encourage deep breaths and coughing SMA

  5. Chest: Impaled Object What To Do: Stabilize with bulky dsg. Do not remove object SMA

  6. Sucking Chest Wound What To Do: Have victim take deep breath and let it out. Seal wound with plastic Tape in place with one corner left un-taped Creates flutter valve If SOB – remove and re-apply SMA

  7. ABD Injuries: Blunt What To Do: Place on side Expect vomiting No food or drink SMA

  8. ABD Injuries: Penetrating What To Do: Expect internal organs to be damaged Stabilize with bulky dsg. Do not remove object SMA

  9. ABD Injuries:Protruding Organs What To Do: Cover internal organs with sterile or clean cloth Pour water over dsg to keep moist SMA

  10. ABD Injuries:Protruding Organs Do NOT: Try to re-insert organs Cover tightly

  11. Pelvis Injuries: How to Recognize: Gently press sides of pelvis down and squeeze. Will be very painful

  12. Pelvis Injuries: What to Do: Treat for shock Place padding btw legs, tie knees and ankles together Keep on firm surface SMA

  13. Pelvis Injuries: Do NOT: Roll victim Move victim

Stabilize protruding object with bulky dsg Cover organs with clean cloth and pour water over cloth Treat for shock SMA
