Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program(OYAP) The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program(OYAP) program starts in Grade 11! • OYAP students earn high school credits towards a diploma • OYAP students gain knowledge of a skilled profession • OYAP students work under the supervision of a skilled professional

  4. What isApprenticeship Training? • Training takes place by DOING 90% on the job 10% in the classroom • Apprentices ‘earn while they learn’! • Apprentices need to be good in: Math Science Technology

  6. *CITI Motive Power • This program has two components – Year ONE and Year TWO • Year ONE (Grade 11) consists of two • morning classes at your Home • school and two classes in the • afternoon at Jean Vanier S.S. OR • Centennial College ( 2 credits ) • Year TWO (Grade 12) consists of all • four classes at Jean Vanier S.S. and • Centennial College • Register as an apprentice • Earn your Level One as an • Automotive Service Technician • Earn 4 high school credits

  7. Who is Eligible? OYAP • Be at least 16 years of age • Be enrolled full time in a secondary school • Have at least 16 credits • Be enrolled in 2, 3, or 4 credit Co-op Education

  8. Accelerated OYAP • Be 16 years of age • Be in their graduating year (except in CITI Motive Power where a student can start in Grade 11) • Completed 26 credits by the start of the second semester • Must be enrolled in a 4 credit Co-op program • Have a Social Insurance Number

  9. Who is an OYAP Student? Co-op Co-op 1 A high school student who is earning co-op credits for work experience in any apprenticeable placement. 2 A high school student who is earning co-op credits and is formally registered as an apprentice while working in an apprenticeable placement. 3 A high school student who is formally registered as an apprentice by participating in any of the OYAP ‘Accelerated’ Programs.

  11. What a High School Co-op student can receive… • Receive Basic Military Qualification and Soldier Qualification • Successful students will be offered continued full time paid summer training • Paid $80/co-op day + meals • University & college re-imbursement program

  12. MILITARY CO-OP Basic Eligibility • Canadian citizen • Be free of any legal obligations • 4 credit co-op in Semester 2 • Complete an application • Pass an aptitude test • Complete medical & fitness test • Have an interview

  14. Dual Credit Co-op Program • Complete 1 college course at Humber College, Lakeshore Campus • 2 afternoons/ week • Work at their MPSJ co-op placement • Students will receive: extra High school credit Co-op Credits 2,3 or 4 One College credit + +

  15. Dual Credit Co-op What’s in it for the student? • Get a head start in college • Become official college students (student card, use facilities) • Make professional contacts • It’s FREE (tuition, text & transportation)

  17. How do our students apply? • Select Co-op on option sheet. • Participate in April/May interviews Co-op interviews • Complete Application form for selected Program. • Follow interview schedule set out by Co-op department.
