Course Overview • 25 hours in class component • September to October • Portfolio Completion • Self discovery, employability skills, training plans, resumes, cover letters, • Interview skills, work ethics, work safety(First Aid, WHMS, Passport to Safety), career research, placement reflections. • Personal Management Skills – punctuality, organizational skills, communication skills, attendance – signing in and out for placements. • Binder(Portfolio)

  5. Workplace Placement • Mid October - May • Depends on schedules • Starting dates will differ • 1st, 2nd,3rd Choice – • Community Contacts, Family Contacts. • Resumes & Cover Letters • Interview with Employer – Establish schedules • Transportation – Car, Bus, (Cannot drive other students)

  6. Meeting Times • Monday, Tuesday & Thursday • Other days – until you have a placement …a study block • School Rules most be followed when not in Co-op Block (Library, Study Spaces) • Roaming the halls will not be accepted. • Punctuality to class is crucial. • Use of class time crucial.

  7. Course Outcomes • Demonstrate personal growth in the …. • Fundamental Skills needed as a base for further development. These skill areas include communications, managing information, using numbers and problem solving. • Personal management skills. These areas include the attitudes and behaviors that drive one’s potential for responsibility, adaptability, resourcefulness, continuous learning and working safety. • Teamwork skills. These skill areas include working with others and the ability to participate in group projects and tasks.

  8. Course Outcomes • Students are expected to…. 4. Demonstrate an understanding in the areas of personal discovery, work in the future, charting their career choices, job search strategies, and the interview process. 5. Acquire and improve their knowledge, skills and attitudes required in today’s society through development of an employability portfolio. 6. Successfully complete a community based work placement. 7. Course Evaluation • Professionalism (10%) – evaluation of your personal management skills such as completion pre-placement requirements, organizational skills, good communication, positive attitude, responsibility, punctuality, attendance, meeting deadlines, completion of forms & documents. • Minor In Class Assignments (10%) – evaluation of various assignments focused on your fundamental, personal and team work skills, self discovery, and training plan. • Career Plan – (5%) • Autobiographical Essay (5%) • Reflective Essay (10%)(Mid Way -50 hours) • Final Reflective Essay – (10%) (100 hours) • Portfolio Completion – (20%) See handout • Employer’s Evaluation – (30%)
