  • Imposed discipline provides the structure and good order necessary for your unit to accomplish a task regardless of the situation.
disciplinary tactics
Disciplinary Tactics
  • Disciplinary tactics in CAP must be tailored around the Cadet Protection Policy due to the nature of that document and its applications to cadets and their safety.
  • Sometimes it is necessary to maintain discipline through the use of disciplinary tactics that could result in counseling to extra training.
    • Take a subordinate aside at an opportune time when they are not involved in an activity.
  • Extra Training
    • When a cadet shows lack of proficiency in an area, assign extra training in that field to further instill that skill within them.
  • Physical Discipline (Not Individual)
    • Done as a group, with the disciplinarian participating. Is used out of a need for group discipline as a whole. Not a form of punishment.
Strict Policy
    • Be stern and follow through on what the set policy and standards are. No exceptions and rule bending.
  • Assertive Approach
    • When necessary play the bad cop. Take a professional and stern attitude towards the subordinate (hard line). It is important that you do not cross into the realm of verbal abuse.

  • Harassment
  • Physical Abuse
  • Abuse of power
  • Assigning discipline out of personal feelings
  • Before you discipline step back and assess the situation, if necessary seek higher authority to provide the proper course of action. Don’t be to quick to rush into it.

route to unit cohesion
Route to Unit Cohesion
  • Respect for others
  • Open mind
  • Respect for absolute authority
    • Without respect for your commander, the ability of the unit to function has failed.
  • Communication

Discipline is essential to everyday functions, varying from school work to a search and rescue mission. Without discipline your unit will fail to function.

Without unit cohesion the ability to function as a team is impossible. Discipline is a must in unit cohesion.

Remember both discipline and unit cohesion go hand in hand.
