  1. Simplified Hitting Approach

  2. It’s not where we start, it’s where we finish 2-5 March 8, 0-0 At least 10 more games before March 8 Grow with each game Learn from the negative BUILD ON THE POSITIVE

  3. 13 out of our 21 outs were STRIKEOUTS Tuesday night vs. Frisco 62% of our outs were controlled by the pitcher We are taking way too many pitches early in the count If, and when, we get two strikes on us, we must PUT THE BALL IN PLAY Force the other 8 to get us out

  4. Our approach from this point forward Because of this, we are currently putting our “middle of the field, attack the inside half” approach on the shelf. We are going to leave our hitting mechanics alone for a while. Not that these things aren’t important, but we need to change the way our mind thinks about hitting. Going into this tournament, we are only focusing on being AGGRESSIVE at the plate…

  5. Expect to swing, expect to HIT We want to HIT early in the count! WHY? Pitcher’s philosophy (goal) is to get “ahead” of the hitter in the count. Pitchers are programed to throw 1st pitch strikes. They want to be 0-1 after the first pitch. And if they don’t throw a 1st pitch strike, you can guarantee that they are going to try to even the count with their second pitch

  6. You can’t strike out if you never get to strike two Think about that, and what does it mean? 1st pitch, and within the next two, expect every pitch to be a good pitch to hit EXPECT TO SWING, EXPECT TO HIT

  7. YES, YES, YES Approach Aggressively expect “Yes”, that EVERY PITCH Is going to be a good pitch to HIT instead of… “Is it a good pitch?...is it a good pitch?..., YES is it”, but now it’s too late to take an AGGRESSIVE swing Expect every pitch that comes out of the pitchers hands to be a pitch to CRUSH

  8. Change your at-bat mindset You should only make one decision in the box: The decision NOT to swing. Expect every pitch to be a great pitch to hit The WRONG mindset is to wait to see if it’s a good pitch to swing at before you commit. This game is too fast for that mindset “Is it a good pitch?...is it a good pitch?..., YES is it”, WILL GET YOU BEAT! EXPECT=COMPETE

  9. If we get to two strikes - Two Strike Approach We want to shorten the swing We must put the ball in play We have to expand the “strike zone” We must have total plate coverage

  10. Two strike statistics 0-2, 1-2 count batting avg. under .150: we must put the ball in play to make the defense get you out Over 80% of strikeouts (swinging and looking) are on pitches away Pitchers are looking to pitch away with two strikes. They are trying to get you to “chase”, or “reach”

  11. How do we accomplish this? Choke up, and open up Scoot toward the plate, and to the front of the box to take away the angle on the pitch away “Look away, react in” With two strikes our philosophy is to look away (outside pitch), and react to the inside pitch (with the choked up grip, you are going to be able to get to the inside pitch quicker)

  12. Somebody has to WIN, don’t let it be her COMPETE! Scoot toward the plate, and to the front of the box to take away the angle on the pitch away WE MUST MAKE THE DEFENSE, NOT THE PITCHER, GET US OUT!
