  6. Learning Goals (Targets) are brief statements that describe for a student what he or she should know and be able to do by the end of a period of instruction. These goals represent subsets of clusters of knowledge and skills that the student must master to successfully achieve the overall curriculum expectations. Growing Success Page 148

Imbedding Targets into Summative Assignments • Task • 1920’s Essay – Did the 1920’s Roar? • Learning Goal • I can explain my understanding of the 1920’s by arguing that it was either a good time period or a bad time period for Canada • I understand the rules of essay writing • Learning Skill Goal • I can work independently on my assignment and ask for assistance if I need it

Imbedding Targets into Summative Assignments Learning Goals are often repackaged into questions on the final summative test EXAMPLE 1 Learning Goal I can explain how the conditions of the Great Depression influenced World War II Test Question – Short Answer How did the Great Depression contribute to the rise of new leaders in World War II?

Answer in a minimum of 2 paragraphs.
