  3. Introduction The ICT Data and Statistics Division is part of ITU's Project Support and Knowledge Management Department within the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT). One of the core activities of the Division is the collection, verification and harmonization of telecommunication/ICT data for about 200 economies worldwide. There are three key sets of telecommunication/ICT data that ITU collects directly from countries: Telecommunication/ICT infrastructure and access data collected from national telecommunication/ICT ministries and regulatory authorities (these include data on the fixed telephone network, mobile cellular services, Internet/broadband, traffic, revenues and investment) Household and individual access to and use of ICTs data collected from national statistical offices (NSOs) Tariff data collected from national telecommunication/ICT ministries and regulatory authorities (covering fixed telephony, mobile cellular and fixed broadband services)

Introduction • Other key activities of the Division: • Dissemination of data, included in the World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators database, through the web site (ICT Eye), printed publications, CD-ROM, and by electronic download. • Analysis of telecommunication/ICT trends and the production of regional and global research reports; • Benchmarking ICT developmentsand clarifying the magnitude of the digital divide (using tools such as the ICT Development Index and the ICT Price Basket) • Contributing to the monitoring of internationally agreed goals and targets (such as the MDGsand WSIS targets); • Developing international standards and methodologies on ICT statistics through close cooperation with other regional and international organisations and bodies, including the UN, the World Bank, Eurostat, OECD, and the Partnership on Measuring ICT for Development. • Organising meetings and events, including its World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators meeting. • Providing capacity building and technical assistance to Member States in the area of ICT measurement and through the provision of training material and manuals

Background of the meeting • A letter circulated from Director General, BBS for preparing a country paper for the meeting; • Officially nominated two person for the meeting • Two officers of BBS jointly prepared a country paper and submitted to the ITU authority. Now the paper is hosted in the ITU website (http://www.itu.int/ITU-D/ict/wtim11/documents/index.html). • Finally, ITU authority selected one person and gave fellowship for the same.

ICT Statistics collected by UNCTAD • Every year UNCTAD send a sets of questionnaire to NSO for ICT statistics(BBS 2009,10,11) • Questionnaire includes the following sets of question • ICT Access by urban/rural and household composition • ICT Access by urban/rural and household size • ICT Usage by gender and urban/rural • ICT Usage by age and gender • ICT Usage by highest education level and received and gender • ICT Usage by labor force status and gender • ICT Usage by occupation and gender

Conclusions and recommendtions of the meeting The 9th World Telecommunication/ICT indicators Meeting(WTIM) focused on the measurement aspects of five topics: • Measuring global development targets; • ICT infrastructure and access indicators – in particular the review of definitions and discussions on broadband capacity, mobile broadband subscriptions and tariffs, speed and quality of service; • Investment and revenue in the telecommunication/ICT economy; • E-waste and • Household ICT surveys Based on these , the conclusions and recommendation are made.
