  1. Great News! The Gospels

  2. Great News! The word gospel means “good news.” Jesus brought good news from God. He called His message of salvation “the gospel.” The four books written about the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus came to be known as the Gospels. They tell how the good news came to us. Each of the four Gospels is unique. Each book presents a different viewpoint of the gospel story. Why do you think God gave us four Gospels that tell the same story?

  3. Great News! The Gospels comprise eighty-nine chapters. Of those chapters, • Four cover the first thirty years of Christ’s life. • Eighty-five cover the last three years of Christ’s life. • Twenty-seven of these 85 chapters cover the last eight days of Christ’s life. The emphasis of the Gospels is clearly the death, burial, and resurrections of Christ.

  4. The authors of the Gospels • Do you know the names of the authors of the Gospels? (Hint: Look at the names of the books of the Gospels.) • That’s right! The authors of the Gospels are Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John! • Who are these four men?

  5. Research Assignment • Who were the four men who wrote the Gospels? • After getting into your assigned group, research your given author using class bible dictionaries as well of suggested bible verses. You may also use online resources.

  6. Research Assignment • Create an informational poster about your assigned author. Be sure to include information about who your author wrote to, their profession, what their gospel mainly details, the theme, etc. • On the poster be sure to also include relevant drawings and/or printed pictures. • Please do a self check of your poster against the poster rubric found on the next slide before you decide that your poster is complete.
