Vocabulary • Dubious - doubtful; marked by or occasioning doubt: • Virtues - moral excellence; goodness; righteousness. • Absentmindedly – so lost in thought that one does not realize what one is doing, what is happening • Aghast - struck with overwhelming shock or amazement; filled with sudden fright or horror

  3. Vocabulary • 5. Persisted - to continue steadfastly or firmly in some state, purpose, course ofaction, or the like, especially in spite of opposition, remonstrance,etc. • 6. Compound -composed of two or more parts, elements, or ingredients • 7. Immersed - plunged or sunk in or as if in a liquid. • 8. Mechanically - having to do with machinery, being a machine, operated by machinery.

  4. Vocabulary • 9. Alternatives -a choice limited to one of two or more possibilities • 10. Buffer - a person or thing that shields and protects against annoyance, harm, hostileforces • 11. Prolonged - to lengthen out in time; extend the duration of; cause to continue longer. • 12. Equilibrium - a state of rest or balance due to the equal action of opposing forces.

  5. Vocabulary • 13. Abruptly - sudden or unexpected • 14. Gauge - to determine the exact dimensions, capacity, quantity, or force of; measure. • 15. Venturing - an undertaking involving uncertainty as to the outcome, especially arisky or dangerous one
