  1. Case 8054-2Fathom Kenny Borkmann Kyle Evans Ashley Richardson

  2. Fathom • The teacher used specialized software to help students understand the effects of sample size on the spread and shape of distributions.

  3. LoTi Model Level 3-Infusion • The instructional focus emphasizes student higher order thinking (i.e. application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation) and engaged learning. • Reflective thinking • Problem-solving • Decision-making • Experimentation • Scientific Inquiry

  4. LoTi Model Level 3 cont. Digital tools and resources were used by students to carry out teacher directed tasks that emphasize higher levels of thinking relating to the content under investigation

  5. Strengths and Weaknesses • It is a statistical educational tool • Fathom worked well. The initial graph was much flatter, more spread out, and the students saw as sample size increased, standard deviation and spread shrunk every single time. • Time needed to input data decreased the time to analyze the results and the overall quality of the activity because the students had to use the teachers computer with Fathom on it.

  6. Benefits • The students learned to use the technological tool Fathom to understand the effects of sample size on the spread and shape of distributions.

  7. Similarities and Differences • The material being taught is the same, but using Fathom made the lesson more interactive.
