  1. Blog 2: Cardiaclife.net ALL ABOUT DEFIBRILLATORS Sudden cardiac arrest happens when the ventricles of the heart stop beating normally and develop a disorganized rhythm causing improper, inefficient and insufficient pumping of blood and an irregular pressure on the heart. When your vital organs do not receive enough oxygen or blood, they finally shut down. If your organs are deprived of blood for too long, they can be damaged, sometimes to an irreparable state. This fluctuated heart rhythm is called ventricular fibrillation (VF). This condition needs to be treated immediately otherwise death can happen within 10 minutes. This disturbed heart beat can only be treated by using the defibrillator. An AED Defibrillator is an electronic device that sends electrical shocks to the heart of person when it is acting irregularly. Only this device can restore the heart to a normal rhythm, regardless of the age of the person. The defibrillators come in various types such as when it is implanted to the patient; it is called implanted defibrillator or the internal cardiac defibrillator. Others include the hands free defibrillators and standard defibrillators. The defibrillators can broadly be classified into following two types:- Biphasic defibrillators: In this machine, direction of the electronic pulse varies, and completes a single cycle in about 10 milliseconds. During the first phase, the current passes from one electrode to the other and in the next phase the current overturns & flows in just opposite direction lowering the electric verge. Mono-phasic defibrillators: In this machine, the electrical rhythms are sent from a single electrode to the other and in a single direction. A patient suffering from V-Fib needs to get AED trainer in order to be able to operate the defibrillator on their own. Be sure to find out as much as you can about this device and look for the best possible brand when buying one.
