  2. Oda Nobunaga • The first leader that reunites Japan was Oda Nobunaga • When political order was broken down and daimyo were fighting each other Oda gave his soldiers guns to easily defeat his enemies

  3. Tokugawa Ieyasu • After Oda’s death following his footsteps Tokugawa Ieyasu, conquered his enemies by the 1600s and became the new shogun in 1603 starting the “Rule by shoguns of the Tokugawa family.” • During the Tokugawa clan rule, Japan started to have contact with the outside world. The Tokugawa clan ruled Japan until 1608.

Isolation of Japan • Because of fear that Japan would become too much like Europe and the Shoguns would lose power the Shoguns isolated Japan by cutting off contact with the outside world. • In addition to this the Shoguns also banned guns and limited technological progress resulting the “period of the samurai” lasting until the 1800’s.
