  3. Homework Due December 9, 2013 • Chapter 13 Cornell Notes, see website for sections to complete! • Completed FRQ if needed

  4. Announcements 2 minutes • College Trip #2 • Retakes of the Constitution this Wednesday December 11, with Ms. Chin

  5. Aim • I will be able to cite evidence when making a claim or counter claim in writing in a free response essay, on Manifest Destiny.

  6. CHAMPS • C=conversation, we will be sharing out during group discussion, be RESPECTFUL do not speak over one another and be an active listener. • H=help, please raise your hand • A=activity, presenting and listening, complete rubric • M=movement, we are not. • P=participation means no heads down, no cell phones, we are reading and writing.

  7. Interpreting and analyzing the question 5 minutes • Circle the verbs in the prompt • What are they asking you to do? • Analyze the quote (prior knowledge, people, purpose, main idea)

  8. FRQ Prompt “Although Americans perceived Manifest destiny as a benevolent movement, it was in fact an aggressive imperialism pursued at the expense of other.” Assess the validity of this statement with specific reference to American expansionism in the 1840’s. (1990)

  9. Thesis 5 minutes • What is your argument • Can be up to 2 sentences • Have you completely addressed the question in the prompt?

  10. Sort and Organize 10 Minutes • Revisit your primary and secondary sources. • Find 3 documents that support your claim • Find 2 that go against your claim but use them to strengthen your claim (explain why this position is wrong)

  11. Organize your essay 5 minutes • You need six paragraphs • Organize according to S.P.R.I.T.E. • Topic sentence for each.

  12. Time to write 20 minutes
