  2. About Asthma • Asthma is a disorder that causes the airways of the lungs to swell and narrow. • It is thought to be caused by a history of genetic and environmental factors.

  3. Signs, and Symptoms • Common symptoms of asthma include wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness. • Usually Asthma develops when you are a child, so if your kid starts to show these symptoms then you should consult your doctor.

  4. Signs, and Symptoms Continued • Asthma is thought to be caused by genetic and environmental factors. • Recent studies have shown that exposure to air pollutants while your still a child can cause asthma. • Weather and Allergens are also thought to be causes of Asthma.

  5. Diet and Exercise • Since Asthma and allergies go hand in hand, what you eat can greatly affect whether you have Asthma attacks or not. • While on the other hand, exercise can be a problem to people with exercise-induced Asthma. Unless you have an inhaler.

  6. Treatment • There are two types of medicine: • Short term- something like an inhaler, which gives you quick relief during an Asthma attack. • Long term- medicine that helps prevent Asthma attacks and relieve some of the symptoms.

  7. Impact on Family • Asthma is thought to be a genetic and environmental disorder. • It can run in family’s, so it is considered to be an inherited trait. • Asthma can also not run in family’s and can be caused by exposure to air pollutants and allergens.

  8. Living with your Asthma • Activities you can do to help with asthma: Swimming and running. • Swimming is a great sport for people who have asthma, because it works on breath control. • Ways to reduce the amount of Asthma attacks you have: Using an inhaler frequently, and long term medication. Also staying away from pollutants can help.

  9. Wow Facts About Asthma • Brittle Asthma- is a term used to describe two types of Asthma, distinguishable by recurrent, severe attacks. • Almost 13 million people report having an Asthma attack in the past year. • As of 2010, there were 300 million people with Asthma worldwide. Wow!
