  3. Franklin D. Roosevelt FDR promised a “New Deal” forthe American people. Hooverranfor a secondtermbutwiththeworseningeconomypeoplewerelookingfor a new leader with new ideas.

  4. Who was FDR? Roosevelt wasborninto a richfamily He was a distantcousin of formerPresident Theodore Roosevelt. In1905 he marriedhisfifthcousinEleanor Roosevelt. He enjoyed a successfulpolitical carreer, then…

  5. Paralisis In1921 he sufferedfrom Polio thatlefthimparalized in bothlegs. Butparalisiscouldnot stop FDR, and after a coupleyears, he returnedtopolitics.

  6. Thereturntopolitics He waselectedgovernor of NY in 1928 and again in 1930. He nevermentionedhislegs and askedthepressnottotakepictures of hiswheelchair.

  7. Do you think someone in a wheel chair would have a harder or easier time running for President today? Why?
