  3. Warm Up: Subconscious • Write the prefix and suffix • Write the root word • Write the definition using the root • Use the word in a sentence • Make a new word with the root

  5. Grammar and Parts of Speech

  6. Let’s review our parts of speech. Nouns—people, places, things or ideas (ex: girl, beach, ball, happiness)

  7. Let’s review our parts of speech. Verbs—talks about actions or existence (ex: running, cooking, is, are)

  8. Let’s review our parts of speech. Adjectives—describes a noun, which one, what kind or how many (ex: that, beautiful, three)

  9. Let’s review our parts of speech. Adverbs—describesa verb or another adjective, how, when, where, or to what extent (ex: slowly, then, here, very)

  10. In each sentence, label the part of speech for each word: The four travellers passed through the rest of the forest safely.

  22. What is dangerous about the Hammer-Heads? Answer: The have very powerful heads to push people down.

  23. 2. How are the travellers able to cross into the country of the Quadlings? Answer: Dorothy calls the Winged Monkeys and fly there.

  24. What does Glinda demand from Dorothy for her help in getting back to Kansas? Answer: The Golden Cap

  25. 4. How does Glinda use the Golden Cap? Answer: She sends Scarecrow to the Emerald City, Tin Woodman to the Winkies, and the Lion to the forest. Then she sets the monkeys free.

  26. 5. How does Dorothy get home? Answer: Her silver shoes will carry her over the desert and to her home in Kansas.

  27. 6. What is ironic about the silver shoes? Answer: Dorothy had a way to get home to Kansas the whole time, she just didn’t know it.

  28. 7. What has changed once Dorothy gets back to Kansas? Answer: Her uncle built a new house.

  29. 8. Does this story have a happy ending or a sad ending? Why? Answer: This is an opinion question. There will be many possible answers.
