How does it generate electricity? • the photoelectric effect refers to the release of electrons from the surface of metals in response to light • this means the energy contained within the light is absorbed by electrons that are in the metal, giving the electrons energy to be emitted from the surface of the metals • the energy from the electrons is what causes the electricity

  3. Common Uses of This Source The main uses of photoelectric energy are: • Solar panels • Batteries (in calculators) • Outdoor lights • Flashlights

  4. Advantages • it’senvironmentally friendly • can save money in the long run • can last longer than battery power • lower maintenance

  5. Disadvantages • less efficient in cloudy days • can be expensive to buy and install • pollution can ruin parts in solar panels • can cause power outages if the electrons get too much light
