  3. WHAT’S NOT TO LIKE? • He taxes you heavily (I Sam. 8:10-18) • Who knows what his successor will be like (II Kings 18:1-6; 21:1-6,9,11,16) • Justice can be perverted (I Kings 21) • Will you have access? A voice? (II Sam. 15:1-6) • His authority can be abused

  6. The record of the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham: Matthew 1:1

  7. “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.” Matthew 2:2

  8. Nathanael answered Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God; You are the King of Israel.” John 1:49

  9. On the next day the large crowd who had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began to shout, “Hosanna! BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD, even the King of Israel.” Jesus, finding a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written, “FEAR NOT, DAUGHTER OF ZION; BEHOLD, YOUR KING IS COMING, SEATED ON A DONKEY’S COLT.” John 12:12-15

  10. Therefore Pilate entered again into the Praetorium, and summoned Jesus and said to Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?” Jesus answered, “Are you saying this on your own initiative, or did others tell you about Me?” Pilate answered, “I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests delivered You to me; what have You done?” … John 18:33-37

  11. …Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm.” Therefore Pilate said to Him, “So You are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.” John 18:33-37

  12. Pilate also wrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It was written, “JESUS THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS.” Therefore many of the Jews read this inscription, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, Latin and in Greek. So the chief priests of the Jews were saying to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘The King of the Jews’; but that He said, ‘I am King of the Jews.’ ” Pilate answered, “What I have written I have written.” John 19:19-22

  13. When they did not find them, they began dragging Jason and some brethren before the city authorities, shouting, “These men who have upset the world have come here also; and Jason has welcomed them, and they all act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus.” Acts 17:6-7

  14. John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace, from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne, and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loves us and released us from our sins by His blood— Revelation 1:4-5

  15. “These will wage war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those who are with Him are the called and chosen and faithful.” Revelation 17:14

  16. But Jesus isn’t just a king… He’s a Shepherd King John 10:11-18

  18. JESUS IS A “ONE-OF-US”KINGHeb. 2:14-18; 4:14-16

  19. HOW DO WE MAKE JESUS KING IN OUR LIVES? • He’s king either way, but some did reject Him (John 18:39; 19:3,14,15) • Obedience – acknowledge His authority in your life (Mt. 28:18-20; John 10:4-5) • Glorify Him / Declare Him • Acts 17:6-7 – would the same accusation be made of us today?
