  3. Dr. John H. Kellog • Created whole grain cereals • Made a healthy, tasty breakfast affordable for people in all social classes • Was not the inventor of cereal, but was the first to mass produce it • His brother founded the Kellogg company

  4. Elisha Otis • Elevator • Designed a safety system to keep elevators from falling • made it easy to move up and down inside skyscrapers

  5. Gail Borden • Condensed Milk • Solved the problem of not being able to store milk for more than a few hours • Was very helpful and in high demand during Civil War

  6. Henry Bessemer • Creator of the Bessemer Process • Found a way to manufacture steel for cheap • Lowered cost of construction • Replaced expensive, heavy cast iron

  7. Henry Ford • Made the Assembly Line more efficient • Each worker had one job that he did over and over Led Model T cars to come of the line in 3 minute intervals • Other companies began to use this method • Note: He did not invent the Assembly Line

  8. John Deere • Steel Plow • Made plowing easier in the tough soil of the midwest • Deere went on to create other farming tools and started his own company

  9. Levi Strauss • Creator of blue Jeans • People then had sturdy long lasting work pants • Strauss created his own jeans company that still produces an assortment of jean styles today

  10. Cyrus McCormick • Mechanical Reaper • Allows farmers to harvest their crops with a machine instead of their hands • Makes harvesting faster and production greater

  11. Thomas Edison • Light bulb • Allowed factories to stay open 24/7 • Increased production because companies would make employees work for extended shifts

  12. Orville and Wilbur Wright • Airplane • Eventual use in warfare • Made travel faster • Idea behind airplane later led to space travel
