    2. Digital Photography History

    3. - Photography was invented in 19th century. - 1963 - student at Stanford University invented a videodisk camera - disadvatages of traditional photography Digital Photography History

    4. Disadvatages of traditional photography:- film photography needs too much time;- limited access to laboratories;- you have to process all your photos and file them all together because they are all on one roll of film;- photos must be processed before you can view them;- image quality can be poor if you use fast films or do not take care in how you take pictures;- necessity of scanning photos before computer processing; Digital Photography History

    12. Digital Photography Building of Digital Camera Front Flash Self-timer diode Viewer Lens

    13. Digital Photography Building of Digital Camera Back Power switch Preview button Viewer Menu buttons LCD Viewer

    14. Digital Photography Building of Digital Camera Specification Flash lamp - is a special lamp which illuminate places and things when we took a picture. Viewer – we can see a display frame of taking picture when we look in viewer. Self timer diode – it blink when camera is set with self timer. (Self timer afford to put camera in some place and get self-photo) Lens – it allows to zoom in and zoom out objects in photo without changing distance of it. Lens consist of lens group and lens barrel. LCD Viewer – digital screen. It is used to preview photos (by pressing Preview button) and to set the best view of photo when we took it. Menu buttons – they are used to move in menu or to scroll photos in preview. Power switch – when we switch it the lens will slide in and slide out. LCD Screen is turning on and camera is ready to took some photos.

    15. Digital Photography Building of Digital Camera Digital Camera is powered by small rechargable batery, and pictures are stored on memory card, which is built-in or is removable. Every card has different storage capacity like 16MB 32MB 64MB 128MB or even 512MB. To take one picture in 1600x1200 resolution we need about 1MB of memory, if resolution is smaller then picture waight less. e.g. to keep 32 photos on 16MB MEMORY CARD we need to set resolution in our camera like 1024x768 if resolution is set 640x480 this amount is growing to 80 photos. So we can see that if quality is small then we can do keep more photos, we need to chose… good look or amount…

    16. Digital Photography How does it work?

    17. Digital Photography How does it work? To make good picture we need to have good camera and good light, if objects which we are going to pohotograph is not illuminate enough, then picture will be in poor quality. When we have good light then we can start taking photos. So how does it realy works ? Let see… The light focused in lens is falling on a CCD (Changed-Coupled Device) Matrix which consist of milion light-sensitive cells. These cells electrify in different way depending on range of visible light.

    18. Digital Photography How does it work? Here we can see how looks CCD MATRIX… This is removable Memory Card to Olympus Camera…

    20. Digital Photography Features of digital photographs

    21. Digital Photography Features of digital photographs pixels

    22. Digital Photography Features of digital photographs compression How Much Compression? "image quality" (High, Medium, Low) The more the image is compressed, the more information is lost !!!

    23. Digital Photography Features of digital photographs resolution Resolution - number of pixels (or dots) displayed per inch (ppi or dpi). The photo on the left was shot at a higher-resolution setting than the one on the right.

    24. Digital Photography Features of digital photographs format of images Most digital cameras store images in one of three formats: • JPEG • TIFF • CCD RAW.

    25. Digital Photography Features of digital photographs format of images JPEG(Joint Photographic Experts Group) pronounced "jay-peg" • describe the JFIF file format • (JPEG File Interchange Format) • JPEG images have two distinctive features: • uses a lossy compression scheme; • supports 24-bit color.

    26. Digital Photography Features of digital photographs format of images TIFF (Tag Image File Format) pronounced "tiff" • developed to save images created by • scanners, frame grabbers, and photo editing programs; • a popular format for desktop publishing applications; • TIFF files support up to 24-bit colors.

    27. Digital Photography Features of digital photographs format of images CCD RAW (.CRW) • raw, unprocessed data; • smaller file size written by the camera; • raw data can be processed into a final image on a powerful desktop computer.

    28. Digital Photography Transfer images to Personal Computer

    29. Digital Photography Transfer images to PC To transfer images to PC we need to use USB cable connection, or flash memory…

    30. Digital Photography Transfer images to PC LPT and USB socket Memory Card READER Dock station

    31. Digital Photography Transfer images to PC

    32. Digital Photography Transfer images to PC We also need program which can store and arganize our galeries. It is usually included on CD with drivers to USB Cable. Transfer is fast and after succesful copy photos to disk all photos are erased from memory card.

    33. Digital Photography Editing digital images

    34. Digital Photography Editing digital images What can I do with digital images ? • Resizing • Cropping • Sharpening • Rotating • Changing Brightness and Contrast • Color Balance and Saturation • Red-eye Correction • Using Filters

    35. Digital Photography Editing digital images Resizing 200 x 133 pixels 100 x 67 pixels

    36. Digital Photography Editing digital images Cropping The original image has too much dark space around the center of interest. Cropping, cuts out the dark areas, leaving just the interesting part of the image.

    37. Digital Photography Editing digital images Sharpening An unsharpened image of a subflower blossom. Sharpened image.

    38. Digital Photography Editing digital images Rotating The horizon line in front of the mountains is slightly tilted as is the tall cactus in the foreground. The rotation command has been used to level the image.

    39. Digital Photography Editing digital images Color Balance and Saturation The original image has a gray cast to it. By adjusting color balance, the image is given a more surrealistic look.

    40. Digital Photography Editing digital images Using Filters This photograph of a mission in Arizona has been filtered to make it look like a watercolor painting.
