  1. Annotating PDFs Hope Greenberg, Center for Teaching and Learning

  2. Agenda • Why annotate? • Analyzing samples • The tools for annotating • Be aware… • Let’s do it • Should students annotate? • Beyond PDFs

  3. Analyzing • An annotated sample from Jennifer Dickinson. Anthropology article sample

  4. Analyzing • Go to the TinyURL link in the “Tools” handout. • In the file that opens, click on the link to the article annotated by Deb Ellis. • Consider these questions. We’ll share answers: • What types of annotations have been made? • The file includes a video. Can you play it? • Did the article open in your browser, in Preview, in Adobe Reader or some other way? • Did the article open the same way for your neighbor?

  5. The Annotation Tools Adobe Reader (Mac or Win) Preview (Mac)

  6. Try It • Open a PDF file and give it a try…

  7. Additional Considerations • Would your students gain by annotating articles? • Their own writing? • If you have them annotate, make a plan for how you will collect and review or assess that work. • More options: • Annotating Images: ThingLink • Collaborative annotating: Annotation Studio
