  1. The TargetStandard 2 Our country needs us to respect each other.

  2. Did You Know? • We need to respect others. That includes understanding that people are different and their ideas are different.

  3. Did You Know? • You can show respect in lots of ways: not cutting in line, being quiet when others are trying to think or work, not taking or damaging other people’s property, and not laughing at other people’s ideas.

  4. Did You Know? • Your freedom depends on your teachers and your classmates respecting you, your opinions, and your property and you respecting theirs. When there is no respect for each other, the teacher must have more control; you will have less freedom.

  5. Did You Know? • When there is no respect for each other, your class doesn’t control itself. Then the teacher must have more control and you and your classmates will have less freedom.

  6. Think About It • Thomas saw a yellow pencil on Lisa’s desk that looks just like the one he brought to school last week. What should he do? Why?

  7. Think About It • Students have been getting out of their seats frequently to get a drink of water. How might students’ freedom change?
