  2. iPads in schools? • iPads for staff • iPads for pupils • shared class setone or more set/s to go round several / all classes (requires booking system) • designated class setallocated to a class • designated pupil school iPadsone per pupil, school retains ownership • individual pupil iPadspupils own their own – paid for or free / included in fees

  3. School iPad management • Managed / supported by whom? • IT support • designated (or keen) member of staff • nobody: every wo/man unto themselves • What management method is used? • MDM (Mobile Device Management): as many systems as there are schools?! • Apple Configurator • manage..?!

  4. Display You want to: • display your iPad screen to the class? • connect to an Interactive Whiteboard (IWB)? Both depend on: • the IWB • the iPad OS and • the MDM system implemented

  5. Connect Wireless – using WiFi network connection: • AirPlay – integral to Apple devices requires iOS7 (integral to device) andApple TV or • Reflector – 10 min trial or US$12.99 or • Doceri– requires iOS7; connects to Apple TV or Doceri Desktop on the host PC / Mac computerUS$30 Wired: • 30-pin / lightning to VGA Adaptermakes a physical connection with the IWB

Classroom working There are different ways of using iPads with students – depending on the MDM, school policy, behaviour of the students etc: • Locked student iPadslimits the app or program that may be accessed • Open / unlockedstudents may browse the internet and / or open any apps they choose

  7. The “flipped classroom” • use audio / video screencasting • capture live lesson presentations / screencasts • pre-record and edit audio / video / annotations etc • playback recording during a lesson or • make recording available to students before or after class and • spend class time interacting with students = the flipped classroom

  8. In the connected classroom For the teacher: • Classroom / student management • attendance registers • effort / achievement records • progress / behaviour tracking • Teaching tools • presentations • recorded sessions or segments • huge variety of ways to deliver content

  9. Stay connected For the student: • Learning resources • Independent learning • Homework tasks • Testing knowledge and understanding • Immediate feedback on achievement • Sharing of files / resources
