  3. Applicable rules and regulations (cont.) • establishing preference – EUR1/EUR-MED • import licences and certificates of origin • phytosanitary certificates for certain agricultural products • food regulations – e.g. on hygiene and safety, labelling, packaging and food composition

  4. EU – Egypt Association Agreement • entered into force on 1 June 2004 • reciprocal tariff liberalisation for industry and agriculture • lower tariff rates and increased quotas for certain products • EU goods exports to Egypt 2009: €12.6 billion • EU goods imports from Egypt 2009: €6.5 billion

EU – Egypt Association Agreement (cont.) • Egyptian agricultural products: no customs duties or equivalent other charges and no quotas • Egyptian agricultural products: no customs duties within quotas for agricultural and processed agricultural and fishery products and higher quotas, extended calendars and duty reduction outside the calendar.

  6. Doing business in the UK • establishing a branch or place of business for an overseas company • establishing a UK incorporated company • appointment of a commercial agent or distributor
