  1. Improve Your Mind THINK, I THEREFORE WRITE I

  2. What is the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP)? • I THINK; therefore, I WRITE,will improve students’ critical thinking abilities as measured primarily by their writing. • Our goal for you as students is not only to supply you with knowledge in your particular discipline, but to help you develop critical thinking skills.

  3. What is critical thinking? • Why do you think it might be important to you? • In an academic discipline like Organizational Management, how can critical thinking help you?

  4. What to Expect as a Student As a means of assessing theQEP, LCU will measure the following three learning outcomes. All LCU students will demonstrate: • Comprehension of the components of critical thinking and its processes. • Application of critical thinking in writing. • The ability to evaluate critical thinking in written expression.

  5. Characteristics of Critical Thinkers • Honest with themselves • Regard problems and issues as exciting challenges • Base judgments on evidence • 1. Defer judgment if more evidence is needed • 2. Revise judgment based on new evidence • Read and listen attentively • Seek a balanced view • Practice restraint; think before act (Ruggiero, 2004)

  6. Reference • Ruggiero, V. R. (2004). Beyond feelings: A guide to critical thinking. New York: McGraw-Hill.

  7. This PowerPoint was designed from Dr. Rod Blackwood’s outline for communicating the QEP to LCU students. For departments like Organizational Management there are online courses and our students need to be aware of the QEP in a virtual setting. • Brad Rogers  • Instructor-OM Departmentbrad.rogers@lcu.edu
