Upon completion of this training, Members will be able to meet the following objectives: • Understand why we are using a new evaluation. • Know the 11 categories and the framework of examples. • Know the meaning of “Meets Standards”. • Understand what categories pertain to Firefighters, Officers and Acting Officers. • Understand the purpose and importance of goals. • Know the components of a well written narrative.   3. Why a new Evaluation? The Organizational Bullseye helps us focus on what is important for our individual and organizational success. Within our Bullseye are core competencies such as Safety, Professionalism, Training, Mission, Vision and Values, SOPs, Interpersonal Skills, Technical Skills, Reliability, Leadership, Supervision and Feedback/Evaluation. These competencies help us to provide a professional service to our community and live in relationship with one another. With this being our focus, the next step is to have an evaluation process that measures us in light of the Bullseye.   5. LOCAL 2099 ANNUAL EVALUATION new evaluation form electronic format Evaluations will be in an electronic format with “fillable fields” which will allow members and supervisors to check boxes, tab to the next section and also provides expandable areas to record comments.

LOCAL 2099 ANNUAL EVALUATION Goals Section • The first part of this section requires the member and supervisor to review the status of their current goals. • This section is to document significant achievements which are above and beyond the stated goals. • The third section is for the supervisor and member to establish work related goals for the coming year.

  7. LOCAL 2099 ANNUAL EVALUATION Goals Section Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic Timely When working with your Supervisor on your future goals, follow the SMART method for goal development.

III, I am ready for this next qualification. • Timely I will complete this goal by December 31, 2013.

  10. Meets Standards: Firefighters must meet standard in 7 of the 8 categories to achieve a “Meets Standards”. • Safety • Professionalism • Training • Mission/Vision/Values • Policies and Procedures • Interpersonal Skills • Technical Skills • Reliability LOCAL 2099 ANNUAL EVALUATION

Meets Standards: Officers and Acting Officers must meet standard in 10 of 11 categories to “Meet Standard”. • Safety • Professionalism • Training • Mission/Vision/Values • Policies and Procedures • Interpersonal Skills • Technical Skills • Reliability • Leadership • Supervision • Feedback/Evaluation LOCAL 2099 ANNUAL EVALUATION

  12. Each category lists examples of what might fit for that section. These examples are not intended to be all inclusive but are offered to help the supervisor enter into the mindset of the area to be evaluated. They can be used to help write the narrative but if you only use these it may not provide a complete evaluation of the member’s knowledge, skills and abilities. When applicable, both of these sections are completed in a narrative format.

Examples of a good narrative • Disregard your own personal feelings to provide an objective evaluation. • Refer to any supervisors notes. • Note examples of a member that meets or does not meet standards. • Be clear, concise and factual with your comments. • Write professionally, use good grammar and punctuation.   14. Members are required to comment in this area prior to completion of the evaluation. This section provides the member an opportunity to share any thoughts they have on the evaluation or the prior year in general. Comments can be whatever the member chooses to write, and could be as simple as thanks for the great year and this evaluation. LOCAL 2099 ANNUAL EVALUATION Member Comment’s Are Required
