  1. What is your argument?Otherwise called:main idea or thesisCoffee

  2. Why do you need this? • Your presentation to the United Nations must have a clearly stated main point. You will state this at the beginning of your presentation, and again at the end. Everything in between supports this point. Hamburger anyone?

  3. How do I come up with a Thesis Statement? 1- Skim through your notes with your partner.

  4. 2- Sum up your thoughts about your research on coffee in one sentence and write it on the note card. This is an OPINION statement.

  5. I came up with several different feelings that I had after doing my research on coffee…

  6. Are any of them like yours?Consumers have the right to decide whether or not to drink coffee and the responsibility to choose their coffee wisely.New policies need to be put into place so that companies bear the responsibility for impacts on people and the environment.Measures must be taken to correct the negative impact that coffee is having on people and the planet.Coffee should be removed from global markets due to the negative impact on people and the planet.

  7. Remember… • Your sentence should be an opinion- how you feel about something; it should be strong, definite, and not wishy-washy.

  8. Your Task • Complete research on the guiding questions assigned for today. • Before the end of the research block, you and your partner must collaborate to write one THESIS STATEMENT on an index card and turn it in. • Once approved, this THESIS will be the main point of your presentation.
