Leaders of the Axis powers- Triple Alliance (Austria-Hungary, Germany, and Italy) and Japan Germany = Adolph Hitler - Political unrest and fear of communist revolutions like the one in Russia in 1917 triggered the rise of Adolph Hitler and the founding of the Nazi Party in Germany.The terms of the Treaty of Versailles also led to the growth of Hitler’s dictatorship in Germany.

  3. What Adolph Hitler believed and what he blamed for Germany’s Problems. He believed that strong leadership was required to save Germany and recover from the humiliation of the Treaty of Versailles.In 1921 The National Socialist German Worker’s Party (Nazi) chose Hitler as party leader. He patterned his rule on that of Benito Mussolini and the Fascist Party in Italy. Hitler wrote a book called Mein Kampf (My Struggle) published in 1925. In 1933 the Nazi’ seized power and became the only legal political party in Germany. Hitler appointed himself Fuhrer in 1934 and began to remove all political opposition. Fuhrer means = “Leader”

After 1936, his official title was "His Excellency Benito Mussolini, Head of Government, Duce of Fascism, and Founder of the Empire".

  6. Why was Germany upset over the terms of the Treaty of Versaille? 1. Germany was blamed for the war; therefore should pay for it (reparations) $33 Billion in 1921 dollars.2. Severe restrictions on the German Military: army limited to 100,000 men; No air force at all. Limits on the number and types of naval vessels. No conscription.3. loss of vital territory = 10 percent of German lands confiscated resulting in almost 13% of German population staying in foreign territory.4. Prohibition of union of Germany and Austria

  7. Neville Chamberlain =British prime minister, whose policies failed to avert the outbreak of World War II in Europe in 1939. He held on as prime minister until May 1940, when he resigned and was succeeded by Winston Churchill. He initiated the policy of appeasement with Germany and Italy.

  8. Final Solution = the term “Final Solution” to refer to their plan to annihilate the Jewish people. Nazi Germany's policy to exterminate the European Jews.

  9. Discrimination, prejudice, racism = the unfair treatment of people by another group of people for the purpose of humiliation and social domination.These were the seeds of evil that spurred the Holocaust.
