List at least 3 ideas! • What is aglossary? • Discuss the circumstances under which you might use a glossary. • What are context clues? • Using context clues, what does the word oppressors mean in this paragraph taken from the holocaust novel, Night? What were the clues? “That was when I began to hate them, and my hatred remains our only link today. They were our first oppressors. They were the first faces of hell and death.”

A glossary is a list of terms and their definitions that can be found at the back of certain types of books, such as textbooks or reference books. 3. You may use a glossary to help understand technical terms in science textbooks or historical terms in history textbooks. Literature textbooks have glossaries to explain literary terms. 4. Context clues are the clues that are contained in the sentence or sentences around an unknown word. A reader can often figure out the meaning of an unknown word from these clues. 5. People who use power and authority in a cruel and unjust way are oppressors. The clues to this definition are the words“hate” and “faces of hell and death.”
