    • develop trust in user consultants - this emerges over time through consistent, caring and committed relationships

    • are willing to acknowledge mistakes or the bad effects of their behaviour or decisions

    • take action to rectify mistakes and prevent them recurring

    • are genuinely listening to users

    • respect users and see them as knowledgeable

    • are positive in their responses to users, even if they have a different perspective

    • believe users have abilities

    • respect different opinions

    • do not impose their opinion but are honest about it

    • step out of ‘expert status’ and pay attention to the ideas and concerns of users
