What did Great Britain’s Proclamation of 1763, particularly the provision about lands west of the Appalachian Mountains require of British colonials in North America? • It forbade colonial settlement west of the Appalachians, for the most part 2. Why did the British government require this? • It was an effort to reduce conflict with Indians who lived in these newly acquired lands

What did the 1765 Stamp Act require? • It required that colonials pay a tax on a variety of goods and documents • To demonstrate proof of payment, a stamp had to be affixed to a variety of items 4. Why did the British Parliament implement the Stamp Act? • To raise revenue in the colonies in order to pay down the debts incurred during the Seven Years’ War

What did many colonials believe about Parliament’s authority regarding taxation? • Some British colonials in North America believed that Parliament had no authority to tax the colonies directly 6. What did the Proclamation of 1763 and the 1765 Stamp Act do, in terms of colonial moods? • These actions created anger, mistrust, and suspicion in the minds of many colonials. • Some colonials began to believe that the Mother Country (Great Britain) was seeking to deprive the colonials of their rights as British subjects
