Colonists Declare Independence • April 1775 • Lexington & Concord  MA • “The shot heard ‘round the world” • Revolutionary War begins • Continental Congress meets  Continental Army • In command: George Washington (VA) • Many battles ended with British victories • Continental Army determined to fight at any cost • Moral & determination (fluctuated based on battles)
